CLEAN & LEAN
Long, lean looks in the palest shades of vanilla, cream and white looked fresh against the season’s more somber hues. Subtle details appeared through soft pleats, sheer panels and clever cuts, with versatility achieved through adventurous layering, such as the twinkly gilet at Gucci that took a delicate lace dress straight from day to disco.
HOME ON THE RANGE
Designers answered the call of the Wild West this season, peppering collections with Old El Paso flavour via pretty prairie dresses, Gaucho ponchos, folksy patchwork, textured knitwear, low-slung belts, boots with Cowboy details.
Florals of all varieties bloomed throughout the fall collections, from delicate bouquets to bold hot house varieties. The prettiest looks came with hand-embroidered or painted petals in either mini or maxi proportions.
Ultra-textured coats are this season’s biggest outerwear story, coming in myriad options, from shearling, ultra-fluffy knit, to faux and real fur, in a spectrum of colours. Go big and bold.
BACK TO THE EIGHTIES
Fashion’s undying love with the Eighties continues this season, with a focus on bold shoulders, power suiting and exaggerated proportions. Party dresses were big news, especially at Gucci and Chanel, as John Hughes’ prom scenes were called to mind in jazzy little frocks.
