MINNA ATTALA Q&A

Q

What unique opportunities did shooting Sloane Street present?

A

“The inspiration for the styling initially came from the feeling of elegance and luxury that Sloane Street represents through its brands. We referenced the classic Chanel chic and brought in elements of the street through the colours in the architecture – the red brick of Harvey Nichols, the gold at Gucci and the cream with black details at Dior.”

Q

Many of the world’s most luxurious fashion brands are on Sloane Street each with an eponymous style. Whose collection is your favourite this season?

A

“For AW13 my favourite collection is by Dolce & Gabbana. It was inspired by Sicily’s cathedral of Montreale and featured ornate gold and red embellishments galore. The majority of the collection isn’t very wearable but that’s what I love about it. I’m a sucker for gold things in general!”.

Q

Frequented by a range of interesting and stylish people from from around the globe, if you could categorise a Sloane Street ‘style’ what would it be?

A

“To the people of London, Sloane Street is famous for its classic, elegant and always high-end style. I’m sure this comes across to the rest of the world too.”.

Q

Which Sloane Street fashion house currently has the best styled campaign images and why?

A

“I think the Louis Vuitton AW13 campaign is beautiful. It was shot by Steven Meisel and has a very moody and sultry atmosphere to it. The models are wearing silk slips and negligees with glamorous coats over the top, giving a hint that they’re really ‘undressed’ beneath their outerwear. The styling is wonderful, but as with any collection, it’s designed to work well together, so with campaigns I always feel that it’s more about the overall concept being interesting.”

Q

The Sloane Street fashion photography shoot captured a wide range shots and the spirit of the street. Which one is your favourite?

A

“Out of all of Amberly’s shots and locations for the campaign my favourite has to be where the model, Ailar, was photographed in the mirrored corridor at the Harvey Nichols champagne bar. The whole setup really captured the more glamorous ‘evening’ style of Sloane Street.”

Q

The models in the shoot have been styled beautifully, echoing the chic and classic elegance of the street. What personal styling tips would you give to those looking to recreate this look?

A

“For someone to portray a classic elegance, firstly it’s very important that they feel comfortable and confident in what they’re wearing, so I’d recommend they dress for their body shape. Also, stick to muted colours and simple cuts with accents of warm tones or metallics to recreate a similar feel to what we achieved in the campaign.”
